Bengt Washburn

Quirky, Unique Comedy

Bengt Washburn

Bengt (pronounced “bent”) Washburn is a self-proclaimed “unaccomplished Mormon.” Born into a small Mormon family (seven kids) and raised in a big Mormon town (pop. 1,000) in Utah, from ages nineteen to twenty-one, Bengt was a Mormon missionary. In 1998, Bengt decided to pursue stand-up comedy. By 2001 he won the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition. He’s been on the road as a full-time stand-up comedian ever since.

Bengt can be heard on XM radio, and has been a guest on Bob and Tom, NPR and other places. He has made appearances on Craig Fergusen and Conan O’Brien. He also did 5 minutes on Comedy Central. He has a few comedy CDs and a couple of Dry Bar Comedy Specials which have millions of views. He also has two self-produced comedy specials.

A favorite in comedy clubs across the nation, Bengt presents a fresh perspective on the world as seen through the eyes of a small town Mormon boy gone slightly awry. Bengt has been called “an intellectual with an imp’s perspective”. He is known as an intelligent and prolific comic. The ever evolving topics of his show are often autobiographical and mostly true. His show is silly, poignant, pointed, intelligent, quirky, accessible, unique, inimitable, “surprisingly universal considering the subject matter,” and above all, hilarious.
