The Vanguard of New Jewish Music

With modern sensibilities,
virtuoso musicianship and a great sense of humor, the San Francisco
Klezmer Experience performs New Jewish Music with daring, panache,
and abandon. Featuring the effervescent Yiddish singer, Jeanette
Lewicki, the SFKE's infectious blend of Bay-Area-roots-klezmer,Yiddish
folk and art song, and improvisational jazz has made them one of
the most exciting new bands in Yiddish music.
Founded by Davka violinist Daniel Hoffman in 1996, the SFKE boasts
an all-star roster of the Bay Area's nationally recognized and innovative
klezmer musicians, including clarinetist Sheldon Brown, tsimbalist
Stuart Brotman, bassist Richard Saunders, trombonist Charlie Seavey,
percussionist Kevin Mummey, and trumpeter/hazzan Stephen Saxon.
The SFKE has appeared at numerous international music festivals,
with the San Francisco Symphony, and with the acclaimed Yiddish
singer and conductor, Michael Tilson Thomas.
"The San Francisco Klezmer Experience,
a newish group of young artists, presented a very special musical
performance. The six-year-old organization swings and dazzles
with sheer virtuosity, presenting "shocking" rhythmic changes
and rich Bartokian dissonances at the drop of a yarmulke."
SF Classical Voice
"The hottest source for Klezmer"
San Francisco Chronicle
"Hoffman tweaks the secular party music
of Ashkenazi Jewry and Yiddish theater with a dose of jazz improvisation."
