"Her influences are diverse, including soul, funk, blues, but not
at least Jazz, a discipline her voice luxuriates in … in recent
outdoor performances, she was lovingly dubbed "The Queen of Vondel
Park" for her full throated open air singing."

Time Out, Amsterdam
"Rare blues of Elmore James and
the power of Big Mama Thornton … Miss Henry Wig takes you through
a time warp and makes you feel like you are a part of a true rare
art with her very talented and emotion filled vocals."

Baltimore Blues Society
"Her beautiful, warm, rich, full
bodied voice is like a cool breeze at sunset on a hot summer's night."

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa
to a father from Bolivia, and mother of French, Swedish, and German
descent, the power of singing started early for Miss Henry Wig.
As a child, she grew up singing gospel in church. In her teens,
she performed as a punk rocker, influenced by everyone from Black
Flag to Cocteau Twins to Billie Holiday. She moved in her teens
to Europe, originally to play with a punk Greek bassist in Athens.
Later, Miss Henry's travels took her to Amsterdam, the South of
France, Switzerland, and various parts of the Netherlands. She spent
a total of 9 years in Europe, learning the catalog of Jazz Standards,
and adding the blues of Big Mama Thornton and Elmore James, as well
as songs from Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder
and even some House Music and Country to her repertoire. Amongst
her collaborators at this time was Jazz guitar great Charlie Hunter.
Well known in the Netherlands, Miss Henry performed regularly in
Nice, Zurich, London and at Glastonbury. She recorded several projects,
the most successful was a song called Into The Light, which became
a number 3 hit in the Dance Music Charts of Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands,
Luxemberg). She once performed Into the Light for 5,000 people at
an Anti Racist March at the Van Gogh Museum in the Museumplein.
During her time in Europe, Miss Henry performed with many Jazz greats,
including Charlie Hunter, Christian McBride, Kenny Drew Sr., Clark
Terry, Ed Thigpen, and many more.
Based in California now, Miss Henry is blessed to be playing with
some truly remarkable Monterey Bay area talent. Joining her in her
Jazz trio, The California Jazz Pigz, are bassist Steve Uccello and
mandolinist / guitarist Dave Holodiloff.
Both Steve and Dave have deep roots in the local music scene.
Multi-instrumentalist Dave Holodiloff has been playing music since
his childhood. Well known to area music aficionados, Dave performs
regularly with his bluegrass band Microtonic
Harmonic, as well as his Jazz Trio, Treetop Trio, and with a
number of other musicians and ensembles.
Steve Uccello is also a lifelong musician. He holds the distinction
of being CSUMB's very first Jazz Studies graduate, and was a featured
soloist with the Monterey Bay Jazz Orchestra in 2009. Comfortable
in all genres, Steve performs folk, bluegrass, country, Jazz, Mariachi,
classical and chamber music regularly with numerous bands throughout
the Monterey Bay area. He is a busy sideman, and also teaches music
as well as performing and recording his own original music.
Together with Miss Henry Wig, they form the delightful trio The
California Jazz Pigz. This upbeat, lively trio has a decidedly "European
Bistro" flair about them. A refreshing change of pace from the standard
Jazz trio format, their enchanting blend of mandolin, bass and vocals
is spritely, sunny, and fun. Although Jazz standards form the background
of their repertoire, you'll also find it peppered with Blues, Latin,
Soul, R& B, and even a little Calypso!
Whether you are looking for a lively ambience during dinner, or
dancing at a party, The California Jazz Pigz are a delightful and
affordable option.
Miss Henry can also add pieces if desired for a quartet, a quintet,
up to an 8 piece little Big Band. Miss Henry always plays with the
finest musicians available. If her regular players are unavailable,
substitutions will be made from a pool of well known, quality Bay
Area players.
Miss Henry performs all over the world privately and in public concerts
of jazz and various styles of music.
