Johnny Rivers, The Secret Agent Man

"The Secret Agent Man"

Johnny RiversRock and Roll veteran Johnny Rivers has been a consistent contributor and influence in rock music since the early 1960's. From 1964 to 1977, Johnny managed to put seventeen songs in the top forty. Popularizer of the mid-'60s discotheque scene through his live recordings at Los Angeles' Whiskey A-Go-Go, he was versatile enough to successfully cover a number of rock and soul hits, folk songs, blues, and some original material, all of them in his own unique style.

He was also an adept songwriter, guitarist, and producer. In addition, Rivers' major achievements behind the scenes (discovering the Fifth Dimension and Jimmy Webb, bringing together top studio musicians as a regular band) made a significant mark on the recording industry.

With seventeen gold records and two Grammy awards to his name, Johnny Rivers has sold more than 30 million records and recorded 25 LP's. He continues to play to standing room only crowds worldwide.

Johnny's accomplishments include:
  • President of Soul City Records, his own top record and publishing company, and a successful singer/songwriter by the age of 25.
  • Produced singer Al Wilson's hit recording "The Snake".
  • Broke all existing Las Vegas audience records in 1966 when he appeared at The Riviera.
  • Won two Grammy Awards for "Record of the Year" and "Producer of the Year" for "Up, Up and Away" by The Fifth Dimension (1967).
  • Was the first Rock and Roll act ever to play New York's famed Copa Cabana.
  • Performed with the E-street Band and President Clinton at his 1992 Inaugural Ball.
  • Awarded the "Heroes and Legends" 1995 Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Featured in "The History of Rock and Roll" television series.
  • His "Secret Agent Man" was named TV's number 4 Best Theme Song of all time by TV Guide (June 1999). "Secret Agent Man" was hot again in the 90's with the success of 60's spy film Austin Powers and new James Bond films featuring Pierce Brosnan.
