The Cachagua (KA
SHAW WAH) Playboys take their name from the remote area of Cachagua,
in upper Carmel Valley, California.
The Playboys have been playing their own brand of Zydeco/Americana
music for over a decade. While honoring and preserving the heritage
of Louisiana's traditional Cajun and Zydeco music, they simultaneously
bridge the distance from California to the deep South. Their repertoire
digs deep into Cajun, Zydeco, and New Orleans Mardi Gras Boogie
roots. But their pasts are undeniably steeped in the central California
coast, where the sounds of the ocean mix with the great musical
traditions from San Francisco psychedelic blues to southern California's
surf rock.
Their set list includes original two-steps, shuffles, waltzes and
ballads which reflect both their California roots and their adopted
genres. Their spirited, rhythmically infectious music has happy
dancers everywhere waltzing, fox-trotting, lindy-hopping, and of
course, doing the two-step.
